Exploring the Surroundings
After a day of rest from the wedding weekend we decided to (re)discover the surroundings of Trimbach. The plan was to go to Wisen and walk from the there to the old ruin of the Froburg Castle.
So after a hearty lunch at Kevin’s place, the bus brought us from Trimbach via Hauenstein to Wisen. Coming from Singapore it was amazing how quiet the town was (okay to put it into perspective the town only has about 400 inhabitants) and also the green scenery was very beautiful.
After a few meters on paved road the way turned and led us through grassland to a first small hill (Swiss would say bump rather than hill). In Switzerland all hiking trails are marked through a yellow, diamond-shaped sign (with some variations for mountain trails). It’s almost unbelievable that the total length of all hiking trails in Switzerland is over 60’000 km. Besides a lot of cows, we were greeted by a fox which crossed our trail just a few meter ahead of us. The weather was quite pleasant besides the overshadowed sky and therefore we even could get rid of our jumpers and enjoy the autumn afternoon.
As it was a Tuesday afternoon we were almost completely by ourselves. After Hazel had climbed over some cow-gates we visited the old ruins of the Froburg castle. This castle was first built in the 9th century and abandoned some 400 years later. Like for many other castles in the region today only the ruins remain and the pieces .
A one hour decline brought us back to Trimbach where we are relaxing our bones for the next adventure.
